Ammonite Print on Plaster
Ammonite Print on Plaster
Ammonite fossil print on plaster.
Original, sculptural artworks that take inspiration from real fossil samples seen in museum cabinets around the world. These prints are designed to look old and timeworn, and I see them as ‘modern relics’.
I have developed special techniques for printing onto plaster over many years and these prints are the latest evolution of my process.
Each of these special prints is completely unique, from the surface texture of the plaster to the fine lines of the print and the hand touching that finishes each piece.
The frames are scratch-built from reclaimed parquet flooring. The teak strips are size matched and made into a square frame that forms a mould for the plaster. Once the plaster is set, they are sanded down to remove all the old varnish, before being given two coats of teak oil.
Each frame is approximately 12.5cm square and 2cm deep.
